Sheila Hyett founded Counting Construction Beans, LLC to give construction businesses something they rarely get from a bookkeeper: someone who genuinely understands the industry. With more than 15 years of experience in accounting and bookkeeping — including roles of Accounting Manager and Controller in construction — Sheila has spent her career deep in the details that make contractors’ books uniquely challenging: job costing, work-in-progress reporting, retainage, subcontractor payments, equipment tracking, and project-based cash flow.
Sheila is a QuickBooks Certified ProAdvisor and a Certified Full Charge Bookkeeper, and her background spans accounts payable and receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, budgeting, general ledger management, financial reporting, and day-to-day financial operations. She has also owned and operated her own small business, so she understands firsthand how much time, energy, and attention it takes to keep a company running — and how valuable it is to hand your books to someone you can trust completely.
That combination of technical expertise and real-world business ownership shapes the way Sheila works with every client: personal, practical, and tailored to what each business actually needs — whether that’s routine monthly bookkeeping, cleaning up disorganized records, improving existing processes, or building clearer financial reports that support better decisions.
The name is a nod to two things Sheila loves: precision and craft. Just as a contractor builds something solid, plank by plank and beam by beam, good bookkeeping builds a business one accurate entry at a time. “Counting beans” has long been shorthand for careful accounting — and for a construction bookkeeper, that attention to detail isn’t optional. It’s the whole job.
Outside of the office, Sheila’s love of numbers and patterns shows up in an unexpected place: fiber arts. After spending 25 years living in Colorado, Sheila moved back home and reignited a lifelong love of knitting and spinning. In her spare time, you’ll often find her working a spinning wheel, turning raw fiber into yarn, or puzzling out the math behind a knitting pattern — because, as it turns out, stitches and numbers aren’t so different. Both reward patience, precision, and a mind that likes to see how the pieces fit together.
